Holden, the Australian subsidiary of General Motors, recently announced that it will no longer be producing its own cars after 2017. In order to ensure its fellow Australians that the brand name will remain regardless of its cease in production, the company released a brand new television ad. While reassuring the locals, this ad also seems to have possibly given the world a sneak peek of something else—a brand new Buick four-door coupe.
Recently, Holden was given the task to design two new models for General Motors, basing them on global platforms. The first one, which is to be a Chinese-built four-door coupe, would be sold in Australia as the 2017 Holden Commodore and in China as the new Buick flagship.
The mysterious model, which is shown at the 24-second mark of the ad on the computer of a Holden designer, has a sloping roof design. Mark Reuss, incomping product chief, has stated in the past that he wanted a flagship that reflected the Porsche Panamera styling. The model in the ad seems to reflect this wish with a rear that mirrors that of the Panamera, muscular fenders, and dual-exhaust tips.

This Christmas Eve, General Motors made keeping track of Santa’s whereabouts as simple as pushing a button—the blue OnStar button, that is. For the fifth year in a row, OnStar provided subscribers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico with the ability to keep track of Jolly Ol’ St. Nick, teaming up with the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) “Track Santa” program.
From 7AM this past Christmas Eve to 5AM on Christmas Day, anyone who had a valid OnStar subscriptions could request a “Santa Update,” provided thanks to NORAD’s information. With increased staff numbers, GM made sure that its costumers knew just where Santa was, while still getting help with emergency calls.
“Our advisors really get into the holiday spirit when responding to these calls,” said Terry Inch, OnStar chief operating officer. “They put on their Santa hats and elf ears and wholeheartedly take advantage of the opportunity to spread such joy to the children.”

The GM-Costco promotion not only offers Costco members supplier pricing, which saves a pretty penny, but also awards them a handsome $500 Costco card. Since the beginning of the program, GM sales have increased with almost half of the Costco members bought vehicles through the promotional program switching over from other truck brands, like Ford and Ram. “Shop-Click-Drive,” the new service, will allow customers to look at specific vehicles, get an estimated price, review incentives, learn about and choose a variety of financing insurance products, and receive information about their trade-in and apply for financing—the normal activities that take place in a dealership—all online, available 24/7.
“We want to make it easier and simpler for dealers to connect with customers who are looking to combine the convenience of online shopping with the personal service of a neighborhood dealership,” said GM’s Kurt McNeil, vice president, U.S. Sales Operations. “We engaged dealers to help us develop ‘Shop-Click-Drive’ to address this need.”
The cutting edge service, which no other automaker has yet, was first piloted earlier this year and is now available to General Motors dealers across the U.S.

Buick’s roll continues: General Motors announced that the brand’s total October sales increased by 31 percent and its retail sales jumped 25 percent from those figures last year. This marks the 18th consecutive month of year-over-year growth for Buick. A big reason for that success: the best-selling Enclave.
According to the Associated Press, Enclave’s 2013 U.S. sales are up almost 12 percent over 2012’s figures. As of November 1, the Enclave has sold 46,384 units in America, making it the top-seller in Buick’s luxurious lineup. Those figures don’t even factor in the arrival of the 2014 Enclave, which only recently hit showrooms like that of Hatfield Buick and GMC.
The 2014 Enclave comes standard with three rows of available seating and is powered by a direct-injected 3.6L V6 that produces 288 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. The Los Angeles Times praised the 2014 Enclave’s refinement in styling and performance, noting in particular the comfortable ride, abundance of available power, and the refreshment of the exterior styling.
As Buick enjoys the residuals of its best October in a decade, the Enclave stands firm as a primary cause. On track to enjoy its best sales year in its history, November promises to be a fruitful one for both the Buick brand and its best-selling Enclave.

Buick is the oldest automotive make in the United States and among the oldest automotive makes in the world. In 1899 Buick began as Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company. They incorporated as the Buick Motor Company in 1903. The following year, Buick produced only 37 cars, but by 1908, Buick has surpassed Ford and Cadillac as the number one vehicle producer. By 1923 Buick has built its one-millionth vehicle.
The 1930s brought about some notoriety for Buick. King Edward VIII of the United Kingdom had a Buick imported, and George IV, his successor, used a Buick when driving across North America in. Buick also produced what has become known as the world’s first concept car, the Y-Job convertible.
World War II brought new opportunities for Buick as they then constructed M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyers for the military effort.
In the 1960s, Buick introduced the Wildcat as a trim for the Invicta series. The Buick Invicta with the Wildcat trim then was named the Motor Trend Car of the Year which encouraged Buick to launch the Wildcat as its own model. The Riveria was also released as its own model during this decade.
In 1987, Buick introduced the limited production GNX high performance package and sold it for only one year on their Regal model.
In 1999, Buick introduced the Riveria Silver Arrow to commemorate their original 1963 original concept car. Three years later, Buick introduced the Rendezvous crossover, the first truck-based vehicle since 1923. By 2004, Buick had started to put V8s into their vehicles.
