2014 has been a good year for the GMC. September marked the seventh consecutive month of growth and the brand’s best September since 2008 with sales up 28 percent year-over-year.
The biggest gainer in the GMC lineup was the Sierra line, which was up 20 percent overall. 27 percent of all Sierra sales belonged to the 2015 2500HD and 3500HD models.
GMC expects that pickup sales will only increase in October after the release of the exciting new 2015 Canyon midsize pickup truck. The Canyon has already garnered a large amount of praise from early drivers and industry critics alike, and it’s an early contender for the 2015 North American Truck of the Year Award.
“GMC’s growth in September hinged on offering distinctive style and sophistication in a number of packages, allowing a wide array of customers to find the one that best fits their lifestyle,” said Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president, Buick and GMC. “Expanding our pickup portfolio, especially with the new Canyon, allows GMC to further expand its horizons and reach new customers.”
Not to be overlooked are GMC’s crossovers and SUVs. The Acadia and Terrain crossover models combined to account for 38 percent of all GMCs sold in September, posting their best September sales to date with sales increases of 15 and 16 percent, respectively.
The 2015 Yukon and Yukon XL were also up big for GMC, gaining 76 percent in retail sales over September 2013.
