We have exciting news for you! General Motors has confirmed that the 2015 GMC Yukon Denali, 2015 GMC Yukon Denali XL, and 2015 GMC Sierra will all receive a new standard eight-speed automatic transmission.
The transmission is called the Hydra-Matic 8L90. Its dimensions and weight are about the same as the outgoing 6L80 six-speed automatic, but with the advantage of a wider overall gear ratio and lower axle ratios.
This means that vehicles equipped with the 8L90 will get better torque when starting off with a heavy load or when trailering, as well as reduced engine RPMs on the highway for better fuel economy (official EPA estimates will come later this year).
And it is, of course, mated to the massive 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, which, thanks to 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque capability, is the most powerful engine offered in any light-duty pickup truck! While it can tow up to 12,000 pounds, it can also seamlessly switch to four-cylinder operation under lighter loads to further improve fuel economy. It’s got the power to become your heavy duty work truck, and is still fun to drive.
