Both Buick and GMC are reporting strong May sales: Buick’s U.S. retail sales and total sales were up 10 percent and 11 percent year over year, respectively, marking its best performance since 2005. GMC’s were up 15 percent and 8 percent, respectively, marking its best since 2007.
Buick May sales were driven by two models: the Buick Encore and the Buick Regal. The Encore led the Buick brand with 114 percent retail growth and 113 percent total year-over-year growth. The Regal was noteworthy for posting its eighth consecutive month of year-over-year retail sales increases as well as earning a 2014 Top Safety Pick+, the highest possible rating, from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Of course, the LaCrosse also helped increase Buick May sales with an increase of 8 percent retail sales growth year-over-year.
On the GMC side of things, the all-new full-size Yukon and Yukon XL dominated the SUV market with year-over-year retail sales up 138 percent and total sales up 10 percent. The Terrain compact crossover posted its best month of the year, and best May ever, also earning a 2014 Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
