Released for the first time only a year ago, the Encore has rapidly become one of Buick’s most successful models. Throughout the 2013 year alone, its sales grew by 52 percent, quickly rising through the ranks in the American small SUV and small luxury SUV market—and even helped Buick set its new global sales record of 1,032,056 last year.
“Right out of the gate, demand for the Encore was high,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick marketing. “It accounted for most of the segment’s growth last year and that’s because it offers the right safety, technology, and features in the right-sized vehicle for many customers.”
According to Kelley Blue Book’s senior analyst, the small SUV segment looks like “the next hot spot” in the new-car market. Or maybe it’s just the Encore. Just take a look at some of its honors:
In 2013, the Encore earned a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a 5-star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the highest rank in the Sub-Compact CUV segment of the J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, and was named KBB’s winner of the 5-Year Cost to Own awards in the Luxury Compact SUV/Crossover category.
Maybe the small SUV segment is the next hot spot for new cars. Or maybe, as Buick Encore Sales would indicate, the Encore is just that good.
